Automatic renewal removes the risk of losing a domain or hosting due to a forgotten payment. The system charges funds automatically 7 days before expiration.
Enabling Auto-Renewal
Billing → Services/Domains → select service → Edit → Auto Renew: On.
Or for all services at once
Billing → Account → Settings → "Enable Auto Renewal for all services".
When Funds Are Charged
| Service Type | How Many Days Before |
|---|---|
| Hosting | 7 days before expiration |
| Domain | 30 days before expiration |
| VDS | 7 days before expiration |
What Happens With a Failed Payment
- The system retries after 24 hours
- A failure notification is sent
- If not paid before expiration — the service is suspended
- After 14 days of suspension — data is deleted
Why an Auto-Renewal Payment Might Fail
The reasons are the same as with a manual card payment: the card expired, the bank blocked the repeat charge as a suspicious transaction, or there aren't enough funds on the card or balance. An automatic charge is technically no different from a one-off payment — it's just the system that initiates it instead of you doing it by hand. A breakdown of common bank decline reasons is in card payment declined.
What Grace Period and Redemption Period Mean for a Domain
| Period | Duration | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Grace Period | 30 days | Renew the domain at the regular plan price |
| Redemption Period | 30 days | Restore the domain with an $80–200 surcharge |
| After Redemption Period | — | The domain is released and available for anyone to register |
Both periods exist precisely so that an accidentally missed payment doesn't immediately cost you the domain — but the longer you delay paying, the more expensive recovery becomes.
Managing Payment Methods
Billing → Payment Methods → Add Credit Card. The card is stored encrypted via the payment processor — details are not stored on ZevsHost servers.
Disabling Auto-Renewal
If you want to cancel a service, disable auto-renewal 30+ days before expiration: Services → select → Edit → Auto Renew: Off.
Automatic Service Renewal
To keep your services from being switched off, we recommend enabling automatic renewal.
Expiry Notifications
The system automatically sends notifications 30, 14 and 7 days before a service expires. Make sure the email address in your profile is up to date. The notification channels and logic are covered in detail in hosting renewal notifications.
What Happens if Payment Is Late
- Day 1–3: payment reminder
- Day 7: service suspension
- Day 30: data deletion
Common Auto-Renewal Mistakes
- Auto-renewal is enabled, but the card linked to it was blocked or reissued with a new number long ago
- Assuming auto-renewal removes the need to check your email — notifications are still worth reading, not dismissing as spam
- Disabling auto-renewal less than 7 days before hosting expires, expecting one more charge to go through
- Forgetting that a domain is charged 30 days ahead, not 7 days like hosting
When Auto-Renewal Won't Save a Service
Auto-renewal charges money from the linked payment method or balance — but if the balance is empty, the card is unlinked, and no other payment method is connected, renewal won't happen even if the Auto Renew switch is set to On. Auto-renewal also does not cancel a suspension imposed for violating the terms of use: until the reason for the suspension is resolved, an automatic charge will not restore access to the service on its own.
Auto-Renewal and the Non-Payment Suspension Stages
If every charge attempt fails, the service goes through the same stages as an ordinary manual non-payment: first notifications, then restricted access, and finally data deletion. Auto-renewal doesn't create a separate, gentler scenario for its own failure — it only tries to prevent the delinquency from happening in the first place. Details on the suspension stages are in service suspension and deletion for non-payment.
Checking the Result
- Open the service card and confirm the Auto Renew status really says "On", not just looks that way at a glance
- Check the Payment Methods section to make sure the linked card hasn't expired
- After a charge, match the confirmation email against the new expiration date shown in your account
- Every few months, manually check the status of all services with auto-renewal — automation doesn't remove the occasional need to verify things yourself
